Creating a New Cost Type
Cost types in Buildend help categorize and track project costs. You can create new cost types if the default set does not cover your project’s needs.
Step 1: Navigate to Settings
- In the top-right corner of Buildend, click on your user avatar.
- Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
Step 2: Open Cost Types
- In the left-hand menu, go to Data Settings.
- Expand Objects.
- Click on Cost Types.
Step 3: Create the Cost Type
Click + New Cost Type.
Provide the required details:
- Code: a one- or two-letter shorthand for the cost type (e.g., “L” for Labor, “M” for Materials).
- Keep the code short and easy to remember — it will be used in important files, such as CSV imports.
- Name: the full descriptive name of the cost type.
- Code: a one- or two-letter shorthand for the cost type (e.g., “L” for Labor, “M” for Materials).
- Click Submit to create the new cost type.
The new cost type will now be available throughout the system and can be used in budgets, estimates, contracts, and imports.
