Overview

In Buildend, a Company defines an organization that exists within a Workspace.

Each General Contractor typically operates as a Company within their Workspace, and other organizations (such as vendors or subcontractors) are also represented as Companies when collaborating on projects.

Companies are used to:

  • Organize users and external organizations
  • Support project assignment and collaboration
  • Structure the Directory information

What a Company Represents

A Company contains structured organizational information used across Buildend, including:

  • Company identity (name and type)
  • Offices and locations
  • Contacts associated with the organization
  • Certificates and compliance documentation
  • Notes and supporting information

This information helps Buildend understand how organizations relate to projects, users, and each other.

How Companies Are Used in Buildend

Companies are used to:

  • Group users under an organization
  • Support project collaboration between organizations
  • Populate the Directory with external organizations
  • Enable structured access and visibility across Workspaces

Each user will always belong to one Company, and their access to projects and Workspaces is linked through that association.

Company vs Workspace

It’s important to understand the difference between Companies and Workspaces:

  • A Workspace is the top-level structure that contains all data for a General Contractor
  • A Company exists within a Workspace and represents an organization that participates in the processes or workflows within that environment

Each General Contractor typically has one Workspace, named after their Company, which serves as the central environment for managing projects, users, documents, workflows, and settings.

External organizations such as vendors and subcontractors do not have their own Workspace. Instead, they are invited into and operate within the General Contractor’s Workspace(s). The General Contractor controls which external Companies are granted access.

Companies can exist across multiple Workspaces, allowing external organizations to work with multiple General Contractors while maintaining a single Company profile in Buildend.
