How to Start a Takeoff

The Takeoff tool in Buildend allows you to measure and quantify project components directly from your drawings. Follow the steps below to start a takeoff:

  • Select the Project you want to work on.

  • Click on the Preconstruction tab.

  • Select Takeoff from the submenu.

    You will see all the drawings that have been loaded from the Drawings tool.

  • Choose the drawing where you want to perform the takeoff.

  • Once a Takeoff Group has been created, click the ➕ (plus icon) on the left-hand side of the panel.

  • Fill in the following details:

    • Item Name

    • Job

    • Cost Code

  • Select the Measurement Type. Available types include:

    • Count

    • Linear

    • Linear with Drop

    • Linear Volume

    • Pitched Linear

    • Area

    • Surface Area

    • Pitched Area

    • Volume

  • Click Submit to create the takeoff item.

  • To begin measuring, select the Takeoff Item.

  • Click from point to point on the drawing; double-click to complete the measurement.

Your measured quantities will automatically populate in the Estimate Worksheet, keeping your takeoff and estimate seamlessly connected.
